Steven Crewe is a PhD research student based in the ICSHC at ÐßÐßÊÓƵ.  He holds a BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textile Design from Nottingham Trent University and an MA in Sport and Cultural History from ÐßÐßÊÓƵ, Leicester. His research focuses on the social history of workers recreation.  In general he is looking at the role of company paternalism through the late nineteenth century to the emergence of Industrial Welfare during the inter-war period.

Steve’s work investigates the origins and uses of sport and social provision in both the manufacturing and service sectors, thus offering a comparative and new angle to the study of work-based recreational provision.
