Alex Anlesinya (PhD, MPhil, FHEA, BBA) is a multiple award-winning researcher, experienced lecturer and management trainer, and consultant specialising in work, human resources, and sustainability. He is currently a Lecturer in Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour at Leicester Castle Business School, 羞羞视频, United Kingdom. Additionally, Alex serves as an Associate Editor of the and as an Article Editor for

Dr. Anlesinya holds a PhD and an MPhil in Human Resource Management from the University of Ghana, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (First Class) from the University of Professional Studies, Accra. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) UK and has completed CA Part II (50% chartered) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana. He also holds a Certificate in People Analytics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Recognised for his outstanding contributions, Alex was nominated for the Students' Choice Teaching Award in 2024 and the Rising Star Award in 2023 at 羞羞视频, UK. He has received eight research awards for excellence, including Best Paper and Reviewer Awards, from esteemed international organisations such as Emerald Publishing Limited (Emerald Literati Award), Wiley (Wiley Top Cited Article 2020–2021), Sage Publishing, FIIB Business Review (2024 and 2022 High Impact Awards), the Academy of International Business (Best Sustainability Paper), the Academy of African Business and Development, and the University of Ghana Business School. He was also a Valedictorian and received several Overall Best Student Awards.

Previously, Alex served as an Adjunct Lecturer and Training Facilitator at GIMPA Training and Consulting, and GIMPA Business School of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He was an Adjunct Consultant at the Executive Development Center of the University of Ghana Business School, and a Volunteer Coach/Play Leader with Right To Play Ghana. He has also been a Postgraduate Research Supervisor at Coventry University, UK / Ghana Communication Technology University, and a Teaching and Administrative Assistant at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.

Dr. Anlesinya has facilitated systematic literature review training for PhD students at the University of Ghana Business School and has guest-lectured on advanced talent management topics to different streams of postgraduate students (MBA & EMBA) at the same institution. He has also facilitated research paper development for PhD students at Egade Business School, Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, a triple crown-accredited business school.

As a research-active academic, Alex emphasises student-centered learning, integrating research, real-world applications, and internationalisation and decolonisation of the curriculum. He has been involved in teaching, assessment, research supervision, moderation, and module design and development at undergraduate, postgraduate, apprenticeship (senior leaders and managers programme), executive, and professional education levels, both within and outside the UK.

His research interests lie at the intersection of work, human resources, and sustainability, with specific focus areas including talent management, sustainable human resource management, decent work, corporate social responsibility, well-being, and grand societal challenges. Alex has authored over 40 publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers, and has presented his work at top international conferences. He is proficient in using quantitative and qualitative methodologies to analyse both primary and secondary data, as reflected in his diverse research outputs.

Beyond academia, Alex has extensive consulting experience, having worked with numerous public, private, and non-profit organizations in Ghana. His consultancy clients include the Ghana Tourism Authority, The Trust Hospital Limited, Volta River Authority, University of Ghana Hospital, Okyeman Environment Foundation, University of Ghana School of Law, and the Women Entrepreneurs Rise Network (WERise) of the Ghana Enterprises Agency. He has also served on technical committees developing strategic plans for the University of Ghana’s Office of Institutional Advancement and the University of Ghana Business School.

Projects

Decent informal work development: This UKRI QR-funded project aims to investigate sustainable decent work development and policy implementation in a post-covid-19 pandemic world of informal work in Ghana. It is being conducted, in collaboration with a major trade union, the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG). It seeks to generate insights and knowledge to develop more effective strategies to support the development of sustainable decent work in the Ghanaian informal economy post Covid-19 pandemic to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of our gallant informal workers.

Supporting the Skills Economy and Alternative Spaces: Skills and sustainable labour markets are intrinsic to structural transformation and sustainable economic growth. Whilst recent literature has been directed at employability, labour productivity and place-based models, as well as the aftermath of shocks such as the Global Financial Crisis and Covid-19, here, this PhD focuses on the unique problem created through the nexus of economic decline, austerity, and green transformations, and how we might overcome these complex problems to support sustainable economic growth through the skills economy. The rise of the skills economy is a response to the global skills shortage, where 87% of companies worldwide anticipate major skills gaps within the next 5 years. Of additional concern is how people from vulnerable, marginal or ‘excluded’ groups such as migrants and minorities are less able to participate in, and benefit from, entrepreneurship, fair employment and benefits of inclusive economic growth. This results in part from the spread of the informal economy and businesses operating on the margins of legality, for example in their compliance with employment, safety and other law and regulation.
