Dr Edwin Abdurakman is the Associate Head of Education for the Leicester School of Allied Health Sciences in Health and Life Sciences Faculty at ÐßÐßÊÓƵ. He joined ÐßÐßÊÓƵ in November 2021 as a Senior Lecturer and shortly appointed as a Programme Leader for Diagnostic Radiography. He is experienced in teaching across a range of radiography subjects both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels whilst remains active in research. Edwin was previously a lecturer at City, University of London where he held various positions including Programme Director and Admissions Tutor for radiography programmes. 

Edwin completed his PhD in 2018 and his novel research work focused on developing and testing microbubble-based contrast agents to measure pressure variations in the human stomach with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which was a collaborative work between Nottingham Trent University and University of Nottingham. His research interest is MRI clinical applications and more broadly teaching and learning/clinical education.

Edwin also hold various external roles which includes being a reviewer (reading committee) for Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships under the Association of Commonwealth Universities, external examiner for radiography programme at the University of Hertfordshire, visiting scholar (researcher in MRI) at Nottingham Trent University, member of MR Special Interest Group of British Institute of Radiology and reviewer for the Radiography Journal and the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences. 

Prior to this, Edwin was trained as a radiographer and qualified in 2006 with BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Imaging & Radiotherapy from the National University of Malaysia. He then worked as a diagnostic radiographer in Malaysia for a number of years practicing various medical imaging modalities including CT scan, MRI, interventional radiology, operating theatre imaging and general radiography, before becoming a lecturer in medical imaging at the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University College and later on the University of Selangor, Malaysia. After awarded with a master’s degree in 2013, he took a further step in his academic accomplishment by pursuing a PhD the following year which then brought him to the UK
