Dr Jennifer Pienaar is currently employed as a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science and Medical Science, and is the Undergraduate Admissions Tutor for the BSc Biomedical Science degree. She has a doctorate in Biomedical Technology (University of Johannesburg, South Africa), and has published her work and presented at various conferences. Dr Pienaar spent three years at a diagnostic medical laboratory firstly as a biomedical scientist, then acting Haematology Supervisor, and finally as Quality Manager. She served on various professional committees in South Africa such as UJ’s Faculty of Health Sciences Higher Degrees Committee, Biomedical Science Departmental Research Committee (Chairperson), and the Johannesburg branch of the Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists of South Africa (educational representative). She is a current member (Fellow) of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). Dr Pienaar’s teaching experience is focused mainly around haematology, transfusion science, and general pathophysiology. Her previous research focuses have been in medical microbiology and adult stem cell differentiation. Dr Pienaar's current reseach focus is on the effect of natural remedies on leukaemia as a form of complementary medicine.
