Personal profile

Omar Mansour gained his PhD from the University of Greenwich in 2017 in the field of soft matter ‘complex fluids’, working under the supervision of Professor Peter Griffiths’, a leading authority in the field. His PhD research focused on the use of Pulsed-Gradient Spin Echo Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (PGSE-NMR) and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) techniques to quantify interactions between polymers and small molecules in different formulations. This included systems in equilibrium such as vesicles, micelles and gels, and systems in a ‘dynamic’ state; foams.

Following his PhD studies, Omar was appointed as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (2017-2019) at the University of Greenwich, where next to pursuing his research projects, he led the enterprise work for a large consortium of companies; GSK, Unilever and Infineum. His research expertise has helped these companies shape and optimise several of their products.

He joined the Leicester School of Pharmacy as a lecturer in 2019, where he is exploring teaching and research at the interfaces between colloid science, formulation and cosmetic science.

Omar is an avid traveller, so when he is not busy looking at bubbles and cosmetics in the lab, he is probably on a plane exploring somewhere new.

Research interests/expertise

Omar is interested in establishing a relationship between the interactions of polymers-small molecules and how it affects the performance of the active ingredient(s) in formulations. Areas of interest include sun protection formulations, hydrogels for fragrances encapsulation and self-assembly of surfactants, polymers in solution and foams. He uses NMR and neutron scattering in conjunction with other lab based techniques to investigate these systems.
