The UK will formally leave the European Union at 11pm GMT tonight (Friday 31 January).
Both the UK and European Parliaments recently passed a withdrawal agreement, though in practice, this won’t result in major changes for most of us for the rest of this year.
A transition period is due to last until 31 December 2020, during which the UK and EU negotiate their future relationship. Until then, the UK will , which means that goods, services and people will still move freely between Britain and the EU.
The withdrawal agreement includes the option to extend the negotiation period for one or two years, however, that decision must be made by July 2020.
If there is no extension, the negotiating teams will have to conclude as much as possible before the deadline at the end of December. In this scenario, businesses, individuals and organisations (including ذكذكتسئµ) will need to be prepared for a significant change of circumstances as 2021 approaches.
What will ذكذكتسئµ be doing?
As the UK-EU negotiations progress, ذكذكتسئµ’s Brexit Risk Group – which brings together senior representatives from across the institution – will monitor the situation and further consider potential effects on the university.
