National Careers Week


ذكذكتسئµ Leicester (ذكذكتسئµ) is celebrating National Careers Week (4-9 March) by inviting students to take part in a range of employability workshops and activities at its Careers Hub.

National Careers Week is an annual celebration of careers guidance and focuses on supporting young people develop an understanding of their future pathways through free resources, workshops and seminars.

Over five days, the ذكذكتسئµ careers team is hosting special sessions that have been designed to boost our students’ career prospects. Students who also visit the Hub during Careers Week will be entered into a draw for a £50 Love2shop voucher.

On top of the university’s events, the organisers of National Careers Week will be hosting a with videos from major organisations including Nat West, the NHS and GCHQ, as well as a host of online resources. 

Here’s what’s taking place at ذكذكتسئµ this National Careers Week:

 

Monday 4 March

Want to do a placement here at ذكذكتسئµ? Want to find out more about placement years in general?

Then pop in to the Careers Hub to find out more about our eleven placement roles right here on campus.

This drop-in session will enable students to gain a greater understanding of the roles and how placements work in general.

There will be a Q&A session with students on current placements within the university and an opportunity to speak to hiring managers to find out more about the characteristics managers look for in applicants.

 

Tuesday 5 March

Students interested in working abroad after graduating should head down to the Careers Hub on Tuesday morning for a special 45-minute session with the ذكذكتسئµ Global team. It’s a great chance to find out more about the range of overseas work experiences that are open to you after finishing your studies with ذكذكتسئµ.

The team will share their experiences of finding a job overseas, what the work culture was like, the opportunities to progress, and how they handled the cultural differences of working in a new country. There will be an chance to ask questions and learn more about international opportunities.

Following the talks with ذكذكتسئµ Global, the Hub will host a drop-in session for students wanting to improve their general maths, including working out statistics and percentages – a key skill in some lines of work.

In the afternoon, there will be a drop-in session showcasing the digital tools that students can take advantage of while studying here, including LinkedIn Learning courses, practice interviews through the careers team’s virtual reality experience, Bodyswaps, and more.

 

Wednesday 6 March

Students can get a taste of what’s to come on the ذكذكتسئµ Made Creative Industries Programme, which starts on Thursday 18 April.

This series of free workshops will support students who want to learn more about self-employment and freelancing opportunities across a range of creative industries, including music, performing arts, digital journalism and YouTube.    

This taster session, hosted the Enterprise and Entrepreneurship team, will outline what to expect from each of the programme’s sessions as well as which media personalities and entrepreneurs are helping to run the sessions.

The team will also be on hand to help students learn ways of creating their own budget-friendly website.

 

Thursday 7 March

The Unitemps team will be in the Careers Hub from 10am–3pm to answer any questions you may have about finding temporary work.

From understanding the nature of temporary roles to step-by-step instructions on how to apply through the Unitemps website and preparing for interviews, this drop-in session is ideal for students looking to work alongside their studies.

The team will be sharing tips on researching the hiring organisation, practicing common interview questions, understanding key responsibilities, required qualifications and desirable skills, and presenting yourself professionally.

 

Friday 8 March

There will be five career development workshops taking place on Friday running from 10am– 3pm.

The day starts with a masterclass on building an effective LinkedIn profile and showcasing your personal brand. A strong online presence can not only reflect your professional identity but also present many new opportunities in the job market.

Following this, there are sessions explaining how students can navigate industry trends, understand market dynamics, navigate the next steps after graduating from university and practice their interview techniques.

Finally, the day rounds off with a CV workshop, where the careers team will be on hand to enhance students’ CVs by sharing best practices or answering any questions on ways to improve them.

The ذكذكتسئµ Students’ Union will also have a polling both, and more information on how students can become course representatives.

-        Employability Numerical Testing Support from the Maths Learning Centre (11am-12.30pm)

-        Digital Tools (from 1pm onwards)

Wednesday 6 March

-        Creating your own website on a budget workshop (11.30am–12.30pm)

Thursday 7 March

-        Unitemps (all day)

-        Pre-planned Employability Academy (Workshop Space)

Friday 8 March

Career sessions as follows:
